New Music
A Gambler's Hand is influenced by third stream music merging classical, folk, jazz, and punk rock styles. The works are envisioned as a musical dream and a story.
One of my concepts is to treat the string quartet as an extension of the drum set. I envisioned each of my four limbs as a string quartet, the violins (arms) and viola/cello (legs). In a live performance I positioned the two violins far left and right, and the viola mid left, and the cello mid right. In a performance, I would face the drum set directly towards the quartet. I believe it is important for the sonic spectrum the listener to hear these relationships and I believe it would be quite interesting to intertwine or overlap the strings and percussion and treat it as one entire instrument, two, or as a collage. In addition, I have discovered an interest in collected lullabies from around the world and a need to incorporate them into compositions that are structured as musical dreams
Pavees Dance
Sean Noonan's newest project features:
Kirk Knuffke (trumpet), Brian Drye (trombone), Oran Etkin (clarinet), Tom Swafford (violin), and Sean Noonan (drums, stories).
Pavees, "the walking people", are Irish travelers and a new musical vehicle in Noonan's attempt to further explore composition through the "wandering folk music theory". In a third stream configuration he brews together four seasoned Brooklyn jazz veterans, adapting folklore, legends and spirituals in a new Irish-American storytelling style improvised on the drum set.
