BROOKLYNLAGERTHE CREATION OF A TRUE BROOKLYN LAGER

One warm January day Norbert Burger, (Bavarian guitarist) was visiting the Big Apple, where he bumped into Sean Noonan (New York drummer), who was drinking Brooklyn Lager. He asked the drummer for a taste of his Brooklyn Lager where soon Burger's Bavarian's spirit ran away. Burger said to Noonan, "you must come, feel the spirit, since a true Lager needs to have the Bavarian spirit." Over the next few days they dueled out musical concepts to find the Bavarian spirit. Eventually they brewed a true Brooklyn Lager, which is one that uses the finest musical ingredients that includes, punk-jazz, western folklore, and group improvisation that travels from the avant-garde to vaudevillian comedy.

"Tribal rhythms by an Irish griot" is how leader/percussionist Sean Noonan describes his New York band Brewed by Noon. "Griot" describes a West African poet, praise singer, and wandering musician. Combining progressive jazz, African tribal rhythms and stories mixed with some Irish lyrics and attitude and you have the basis for Brewed By Noon. "The drummer and composer Sean Noonan approaches postmodern jazz and world music from the same angle of self-discovery: he manages to make his pieces speak coherently, and in a unified voice." - The New York Times

Born in Brockton, Massachusetts and a Berklee College graduate, Noonan is a longtime veteran of both aforementioned musical styles. He has also lead behind the jazz-punk trio, THE HUB. After recovering from a near-fatal car wreck in Italy during 2003, Noonan decided his next project would combine his two musical loves of Jazz and African rhythms.

Norbert Burger leads the Bavarian band Prettyboys, that find a common denominator for a great diversity of different musical practices. Norbert Burger and the Prettyboys committed themselves to avant-garde and rock'n'roll. The award-winning guitar-player and his ensemble break new ground creating their own unique sound. Skipper Norbert Burger has a firm grip on his crew, which seems at times like a wild mob that knows how to groove. Burger and his Prettyboys easily splits between a raft of bizarre, comical and grotesque moods that pave the way of what the Prettyboys are about. In Bavaria there are no cooler cats representing the German jazz scene than the Pretty Boys.
